Gates swung open under an uneasy East London sky, seemingly incapable of making up its mind. The rain – largely – held off, though, with early crowds greeted to raucous sets from the likes of grime don and KISS personality Rudekid.
The opening day entirely built towards Major Lazer, however. Diplo & Co. have a piece of their heart in East London, and it showed right from the start.
Sure, the purists may never be charmed by their loud, bass-slash-arena beats, but it sure is effective. Opening with a long, drawn out 'Pon De Floor' the crew simply smashed it: a no-holds-barred performance that truly raised the roof.
