Global pop superstar Madonna has left the African nation of Malawi after he failed adoption bid.
While Madonna’s career goes from strength to strength it seems her private life is in turmoil. The mammoth Sticky And Sweet tour travelled the world last year, grossing more than any other solo performer in history.
With another batch of dates announced, the singer is set to entertain thousands more fans before the summer arrives in earnest. However this has been more than matched by the speculation surrounding her marriage to, and ultimate divorce from, British director Guy Ritchie.
The pair had adopted a Malawian child together, and their divorce caused much consternation in the African country. Soon after this, Madonna was rumoured to be in a relationship with Alex Rodriguez – a married baseball player.
Madonna then launched a bid to adopt another child from Malawi, which was met with no degree of controversy in the African nation. Some government officials stated that Madonna was a poor role model, while others pointed out that the child – named Mercy James – would gain a quality of life she would not otherwise find in Malawi.
The singer’s application was rejected on the grounds that the adoption process requires prospective parents to reside in Malawi for eighteen months to two years. Madonna has claimed that she would appeal the ruling, although no official statement has been made.
No date has been set for the appeal hearing.
