Queen of Pop Madonna has claimed she is considering adopting another child from Malawi.
Madonna adopted a child from the impoverished African nation in 2008, causing much controversy. While admitting she had the right to do what she wanted, critics argued she had turned aid into a lottery provided by the rich.
The child, David Banda, now resides with Madonna after her divorce last year. It has been widely speculated that Madonna’s desire to adopt another African child is what drove her and husband Guy Ritchie behind.
Speaking to the Malawi newspaper Nation the singer admitted that she saw herself as a “role model”, adding that she would only adopt another child with the full support of the authorities.
Madonna claimed adoption was something she “would only do if I had the support of the Malawian people and the Government.”
She added: “Many people — especially our Malawian friends — say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister. I am the template or the role model, so to speak, for future adoptions.”
Madonna was recently named the highest earning musical performer of 2008, earning many times more than the Gross Domestic Product of Malawi.
