Globe trotting singer Madonna will be able to appeal the decision to prevent her adoption of a child from Malawi in a hearing next month.
Madonna is already the legal guardian of a young boy from the African state, and recently decided to attempt to adopt a girl from Malawi. However the singer endured a torrid time in the African courts, with some officials in the impoverished nation arguing that she was an unfit role model.
The singer divorced from her husband Guy Ritchie at the end of last year, and since then has been linked with a string of men including the married baseball player A-Rod. However the judge in the initial hearing insisted that these details had nothing to do with the case, and denied her the right to adopt under residency laws.
The new hearing will take place in the Malawi Supreme Court on May 4th, but Madonna is not required to attend in person. The singer left Malawi soon after the first verdict, using an email interview with a daily newspaper in the African nation to vent her anger.
Madonna is attempting to adopt a three year old girl named Chifundo James. Her mother is dead, and the girl currently lives in an orphanage. The singer has claimed that she wishes to give the child a better standard of life, before Chifundo returns to Malawi as an adult.
The first hearing saw Madonna denied custody as she had not lived in Malawi for the required time of 18-24 months to be assessed for suitability.
The rule was waived when the singer attempted to adopt David Banda, but authorities in Malawi are keen to avoid setting a legal precedent.
Madonna has not commented on the new update.
