Mad Magazine Lampoons Radiohead

UK group get comedy treatment

Oxford group Radiohead have grown accustomed to receiving lavish praise recently, but the group have also been the subject of a controversial new issue of Mad Magazine.

An American institution, Mad combines Private Eye like satire with some knockabout fun. Some would argue that the magazine lost its edge a long time ago, but the new issues still keep rolling off the press.

Now global, Mad Magazine’s Mexican edition has decided to target Radiohead. The band are set to plat their first shows in the nation since 1994, with German icons Kraftwerk in tow.

The cover of the new Mexican edition of Mad Magazine features a distorted picture of Thom Yorke. Inside, the magazine takes a swipe at the group.

According to Pitchfork, the article is offensive towards “gay people, perverts, blind people, Care Bears, and Charles M. Schultz”. Which is nice!

The band are set to be busy, with guitarist Ed O’Brien part of the Featured Artists Coalition. The group aim to fight for musicians rights in the download era, and also contains Blur’s Dave Rowntree among their number.

Radiohead play Mexico City on March 15th – 16th.
