Returning Brighton based indie dons The Maccabees are due to release a new single, with the band currently zipping around the UK on an extensive tour.
Originally hailing from South London, The Maccabees moved down to the south coast to soak up the sea air and work on their music. The band were obviously affected by their surroundings, with debut album ‘Colour It In’ being an unexpected delight.
Bright and breezy, the band combined great songwriting with lush production. The Maccabees’ debut album spawned the semi-hit ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ which was buoyed by a quirky video.
Two years passed, but last month the band felt ready to release their second album. ‘Wall Of Arms’ showed off The Maccabees new sonic muscle. Clearly indebted to groups such as Arcade Fire, the new love of orchestration was matched by more mature songwriting.
A deeply impressive album, the album spawned the single ‘Love You Better’ which became the group’s first Top 40 entry.

The Maccabees are currently touring the UK, but are set to find time to release a new single. ‘Can You Give It’ is a highlight on the album, squeezed in between several great tracks. However given room to breath the track becomes a potential anthem, and has already become a firm favourite with fans.

So our new album came out today! Just played in Bristol and had a drink with Mumford and Sons to celebrate. The tour so far has been great, thank you to everyone who’s come to the shows so far for making them what they are. Good on you for listening to the new ones too. Electric Ballroom tomorrow, La Shark join as first support making it a really great bill. Thanks also to Lyrebirds and Peggy Sue for doing a show each.
Port O’Brien, Lou Reed and Ian Dury has soundtracked our touring so far.
