Indie kids The Maccabees are ready to spit some fierce rhymes after claiming that forthcoming album ‘Wall Of Arms’ has a hip hop direction.
The Maccabees emerged in 2007 clutching their debut album ‘Colour It In’. Recorded in an abandoned swimming pool that the band converted into a studio, the album was a bright and breezy collection of indie tunes that charmed listeners in droves.
Lead single ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ sounded like warm spring day – so much so, in fact, it could well be heading for the office stereo later.
The bans have been working on a follow up for some time, but are due to release their second album ‘Wall Of Arms’ later this year. Not much has been heard of the new material, but in a new interview band members Orlando Weeks and Felix White insist that they have taken a new hip hop inspired direction.
“Felix has been on a hip-hop kick for the past year-and-a-half,” explained Weeks to the NME, adding, “I don’t know if you can hear that.”
White claimed that “someone said that about (album track) ‘Love You Better’ the other day, that it has that kind of beat like that – I don’t know if it’s a complete happy accident or not.”
However fans expecting a Biggie Smalls style ghetto anthem will be left disappointed. “I will do anything in my power to make sure Orlando doesn’t rap over any Maccabees material!” joked White.
The first single to be released from the group’s forthcoming album will be ‘Love You Better’ on April 27th. It follows the free download ‘No Kind Words’ which flew down modems earlier this year.
