Mac Wetha Links With spill tab On ‘Play Pretend’

Mac Wetha has shared new single ‘Play Pretend’.

The musician is a key aspect of London’s underground scene, having toured with beabadoobee, and helped provide a fulcrum for NiNE8 Collective. His solo work is rapidly becoming sought-after, with Dirty Hit Records swooping to sign the multi-hyphenate.

His recent ‘Cloud Paint’ EP illustrates his emphatic talents, moving between production to intricate word play, via some emotive songwriting. Mac Wetha follows this with a brand new single, sharing ‘Play Pretend’ a few moments ago.

Digging deep, the track moves between his indie rock roots and hip-hop adjacent production, with the neat, looping guitar line pointing to bedroom pop. American artist spill tab works on the song, and her engaging vocal is the perfect counterpoint for Mac Wetha’s hazy introspection.

He comments…

‘Play Pretend is about refusing to put on an act to please people and accepting yourself for who you are, regardless of what others think. The tune was written with spill tab and my friend Kurisu on the first day we all hung out, it all came together very organically and naturally, and just felt special from the jump’
