Mac DeMarco will release his new album ‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’ on January 20th.
The Canadian songwriter kicked off sessions for the record a year ago, an instrumental only set that owes a debt to an unexpected road trip.
Taking off from his new base in Los Angeles, Mac wanted to keep driving and driving and driving, until he eventually ran out of road. Writing along the way, the results are gathered on his incoming album ‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’.
He comments: “The plan was to start driving north, and not go home to Los Angeles until I was done with a record. Kind of like being on tour, except there weren’t any shows, and I’d just be burning money.”
The song titles reflect the city they were recorded in, the tracklisting coming to mark the journey’s path. Mac adds: “Some places I stayed longer in than others, some of them I knew from the past, others not so much. I tried to keep things busy all the time. If I didn’t know what was up in a city, I’d just walk around ‘til someone recognised me and go from there. I met a lot of interesting people this way, and had a bunch of cool experiences.”
‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’ will receive a digital and CD release on January 20th; vinyl follows on May 12th.
