M Ward Prepares New Album

'A Wasteland Companion' due on April 9th

M Ward is set to return with his new album ‘A Wasteland Companion’ on April 9th.

M Ward has not released a solo album in three years, but that doesn’t mean the American songwriter hasn’t been busy. Hooking up with Zooey Deschanel for She & Him, the artist also joined the supergroup Monsters Of Folk.

Now M Ward is set to focus on his own output. ‘A Wasteland Companion’ is due to be released on April 9th, and collects material which was recorded in a total of eight different studios.

Sessions stretched from Los Angeles to Bristol, the a total of eighteen musicians taking part. The American songwriter is joined by Giant Sand’s Howe Gelb, Bright Eyes’ Mike Mogis, Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley and more with Zooey Deschanel dropping by on guest vocals.

In a quote supplied with the press release M Ward explains that ‘A Wasteland Companion’ is a travelogue of sorts. “Between now and when I made Hold Time there has been a lot of travelling which requires a lot of reckoning with what to leave behind and what to carry – material and otherwise – and thinking about what I want versus what I need, creatively and otherwise”.

“I wanted to get a reflection of that on the album. It was a process of stripping away my security blanket, which is the same four walls I always record in.”

Due for release on April 9th, M Ward will compliment ‘A Wasteland Companion’ with a short burst of British shows. Opening with a show in London’s Leicester Square Theatre, the singer will then hook up with Feist for a trio of shows.

Including a date at the Royal Albert Hall, the tour comes to a close in Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.

Tickets are on sale now.
