M.I. was born in raised in East London, and found music soundtracked every aspect of her life.
From gospel to R&B to funk and pop, she absorbed it all, her dexterous voice able to stretch past limitations.
Now based in London, she's been gigging non-stop, playing any show she can find – supporting everyone from Sampa The Great to Will Young in the process.
New single 'Runaway' is "about escapism" and there's a real sense of joy and release in her unrelenting songwriting.
Bubbling, laced with energy, it's an impish, infectious piece of songwriting. She comments:
"It’s about escapism. Wanting to get away from all your troubles with someone you want to spend all your time with. Being giddy. You know when you really like someone and just don't know how to behave? And you carry on like an idiot? Yeah that."
