A prolific visual artist, M.I.A. has previously shied away from directing music videos.
Now, though, she’s decided to take charge of her next clip. Co-produced with The Partysquad, ‘Double Bubble Trouble’ is a lurid piece of dancehall inspired machine funk, with Maya displaying typical edge.
Stepping in to direct the clip, the aesthetic – sharp juxtaposition, a DIY feel and collision of colours, culture, language – will be familiar to anyone who has followed the singer’s work.

It’s all in the day’s work for M.I.A. whose recently Stateside tour saw the singer headline over A$AP Ferg. As if that wasn’t enough, she found time to remix Beyonce and performed the world’s first hologram duet – M.I.A. and Janelle Monae were beamed into each other’s concerts.
