M.I.A’s eagerly awaited third album is in stores now! Her third full length album entitled ‘// / Y /’ follows her internationally critically acclaimed records ‘Arular’ and ‘Kala’. Like the albums before it, M.I.A has once again compiled a unique blend of politics and social consciousness along with her own controversial style- the new album making as much a political statement as a musical one.
The self entitled album was produced by Rusko, Blaqstarr, Switch, Diplo, John Hill, Derek Miller, Sugu, and M.I.A, with musical influences including dubstep, electro, punk, and pop. With such an eclectic mix of producers and influences, M.I.A’s new album is a stylish selection of tracks which appear difficult to define, with sounds for the dance-floor such as “XXXO” and “Teqkilla”, the rock club “Born Free”, or a quiet moment alone “It Iz What Iz”, ‘// / Y /’ covers a lot of ground, but appears to be exquisitely compiled in a way no one but Maya Arulpragasam could pull off.
