M.I.A. Needs Album Help

Working title was 'Complications'

Sri Lankan born singer M.I.A. has asked fans for help in naming her forthcoming third album.

When it comes to making an album, recording the actual music is often the easiest part. If ClashMusic has learned one thing over the years, it’s that tracklistings and album titles are far more difficult than they look.

M.I.A. has completed her third album, and recently revealed the full tracklisting to fans. Alongside this, the singer has even broadcast the new video to her song ‘Born Free’ which features plenty of ginger-splattering abuse.

Swiftly banned from YouTube, M.I.A. has now appealed to fans via Twitter to help her name the album. According to producer Rusko, who helped with recording sessions, one working name was ‘Complications’.

“We wanted to call it ‘Complications’ because it took so long,” he told BBC 6Music. “It wasn’t a nightmare, but we’re both perfectionists. I’m like a mad perfectionist so the final versions we sent off were version eight and version nine. They’d all been changed and changed, but that’s good.”

Continuing, the producer claimed that the album is full of inventive ideas. “It’s crazy. It’s like mad distorted and hectic,” he added. “She’s super creative. She’s one of my favourite people I’ve ever worked with. While she’s writing words, she’s drawing pictures and artwork.”

“She makes the picture before the lyrics,” he explained. “It’s all one big package. It’s kind of all a bit crazy. She’s got a kid, a little one year old baby, and we recorded his heart beat. We’d just think of crazy ideas.”

M.I.A. is set to release her third album this summer.
