Lynks Shares Grindr Ode ‘(What Did You Expect From) Sex With A Stranger’

"What does sex become when it’s devoid of emotion?"

Lynks returns with explicit new single ‘(What Did You Expect From) Sex With A Stranger’.

The masked creative is storming across 2023, sharing a string of essential singles. Recent cut ‘USE IT OR LOSE IT’ seemed to become a breakthrough moment, arguably the most accessible and downright ‘pop’ release Lynks has yet put his name against.

Out now, ‘(What Did You Expect From) Sex With A Stranger’ is packed with raunch, revelling in the strange feelings conjured by casual sex. A song about the Grindr era, Lynks matches bodily needs to an over-powering sense of alienation, a feeling that – sometimes – the meaningless nature of the hook-up can be over-powering.

As the song puts it: “I’m on the DLR on my way to fuck a stranger / Know his age, know his height, don’t know his name…”

Discussing the song, Lynks comments…

“Now, Grindr can be a wonderful thing – don’t get me wrong. But I wrote this song during a time when I was using Grindr almost like TikTok or Instagram; as a way to distract myself from reality – to not be alone with my thoughts. And, unsurprisingly, the sex that came from that wasn’t hugely fulfilling. I was seeking these encounters to try and distract myself from the mundanity of life, but ultimately leaving them feeling no different.

“I wanted to try and capture that weird oxymoron; sex without feeling, romance in a coma. What does sex become when it’s devoid of emotion? Transactional? Routine? Obligatory? Compulsive? It’s a funny idea. And one I hadn’t really heard put to music before. So I thought I’d better do it! And shout out the Docklands Light Railway in the process.”

Tune in now.
