Lykke Li Looks Back

Singer Discusses 2008

Swedish singer Lykke Li has stunned critics with her debut album ‘Youth Novels’, and with the album set to score highly in the end of year polls the star has spoken to Clashmusic.com about her astonishing year.

What a difference a year makes. As January dawned Lykke Li was a name known only by the privileged few, with a stock of songs that could silence an audience at one hundred paces. Now, with her debut album ‘Youth Novels’ gathering plaudits Lykke Li has hardly had time to draw breath.

She has, however, found time to speak to Clashmusic.com. Of her celebrated album she says “I did the album so long ago, and I couldn’t really sing at the time. It was just like the first thing I ever did in the studio. I think of myself as a performer, I’m like a different person with a different voice, but I guess people only hear the album, so they don’t really know how I’ve grown. But I’ve really, really grown.”

The singer’s work schedule looks set get even more intimidating, with Lykke Li saying “I’m going to be touring. I mean, I’m touring all spring probably, and then playing the summer festivals. I’ll have probably two months free, but otherwise I’ll be touring.”
