Grammy award winning rapper Lupe Fiasco is set to climb Africa’s highest mountain with none other than Justin Timberlake.
Amid a hip hop scene where creativity has long since been swapped for guns and bling, Lupe Fiasco shines like beacon of fierce intelligence. Real name Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, Lupe Fiasco leaped to fame on the back of his debut album ‘Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor’.
Produced in sharp contrast to the glitz and glamour of the modern rap scene, Lupe Fiasco’s debut album benefited from some friends in high places. Kanye West roped the prodigious rapper in to work on his ‘Late Registration’ album, while Jay-Z also went public with his praise for Lupe Fiasco.
Currently working on a new all-star rap-rock project named The Japanese Cartoon, the hip hop star is also recording a new triple-disc solo effort. Rumour has it the release could be his last, with Lupe Fiasco said to be tiring of the restrictions of hip hop.
As if that didn’t keep him busy enough, Lupe Fiasco is also now set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with Justin Timberlake in tow. The pair will climb the 19,000 foot mountain in aid of charity. The pair were recruited by Neptunes associate Kenna, and will attempt to raise awareness of the worldwide water crisis.
However Lupe Fiasco is determined to have some fun along the way, telling Elle magazine that “part of the motivation is beating Kenna to the top. Sabotaging his tent, taking the lining out of his coat, lacing it with ants or something like that.”
Kenna told the magazine that the subject is close to his heart. My dad almost died as a child from waterborne diseases in Ethiopia, and he had talked to me about digging a well there, and I thought, ‘I have too many friends who would be concerned with the subject of clean water. Maybe I can help out,'”.
When not saving the world Justin Timberlake is busy appearing on skits on hit American TV show Saturday Night Live. The singer is set to appear on the group Lonely Island’s forthcoming album ‘Incredibad!’ alongside a host of regulars from the television show.
