Italian producer Luke Beats has shared his new ‘Cream’ tape in full.
The producer is a key fixture in the Italian underground, acting as a conduit between live rap and studio finesse, between hard-hitting hip-hop aspects and louche, jazz-tinged musicality.
Out now, new tape ‘Cream’ boasts 18 tracks, taking its inspiration from crucial releases by the likes of J Dilla and Madlib.
Using MPC and SP404 to chop up his samples, Luke Beats also brings a fully fledged performance sensibility – amongst other gigs, he plays bass for Italian rap artist Willie Peyote.
The new tape was inspired by the Italian saying ‘ci sta una crema’ (‘as good as cream’), with Luke Beats aiming to provide sonic gluttony.
There’s a slew of highlights here, with drummer Federico Romeo popping past on ‘404 Fun 4 Days’, and Danny Bronzini bolstering the self-explanatory homage ‘JamDilla’.
Crucial listening – out now digitally, and also available on cassette.
