Loyle Carner Shares ‘Hugo’ Live Reimagining

Capturing his Royal Albert Hall performance...

Loyle Carner has shared a live reimagining of his celebrated album ‘Hugo’.

The rapper released the studio album last year to widespread acclaim, landing a Mercury nomination in the process. CLASH reviewer Naima Sutton wrote:

The vulnerability Loyle Carner presents has always been incredibly complex, on ‘Hugo’ it comes across as even more so. The truth is that in matters of injustice, anger is one of our most powerful tools and with it ‘Hugo’ showcases an essential part of the depth and criticality Loyle Carner possesses as an artist.

Playing a landmark show at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall, Loyle Carner reimagined ‘Hugo’ in a live context. Thankfully a full film crew was on hand to capture the evening, which has now been presented as a 45-minute film.

Diirected by Milo Blake and shot by Greg Hackett, it’s a beautiful experience, going behind the scenes to highlight Loyle’s commitment to his artistry.

Joined by some special guests, the film is an art object in its own right, tracking a one-night-only experience.

Loyle Carner comments…

“Whilst touring ‘hugo’ for the last couple years I noticed that the music began to change as the shows went on. I wanted to catch a snapshot of their evolution and document how alive and fluid the things we make are. A special way to spend my birthday…”

Loyle Carner will headline All Points East this summer.
