For a while there, it looked as though the humble record shop would become an extinct species.
Now, though, the vinyl revival is driving their comeback. In recent years, the number of independent record shops in the UK has actually increased, with more and more new outlets opening.
Love Vinyl is set to open next month in an East London space. Behind the venture are four individuals who will no doubt be recognised by most people who have ventured onto the capital's independent music scene over the past decade or so.
Stuart Patterson co-ran the Faith nights in the early 2000s, before going on to take control of Shoreditch institution East Village; James Manero meanwhile co-runs Another Party, and also heads up late night establishment Manero's.
Zafar Chowdhry aka The Mighty Zaf is the co-owner of Soho's Reckless Records, and also runs www.zafsmusic.com – a sought after website for exclusive disco, soul, funk rarities. Finally, Jake Holloway previously ran Village Vinyl shop in Walthamstow, which was renowned for its carefully chosen blend of jazz, funk, soul and more.
According to the blurb we've been supplied, Love Vinyl will stock both new releases and archive material "whether it's the latest house or techno releases or vintage underground disco gems from the 70's."
Best of luck!
Love Vinyl opens at 5 Pearson St, London on June 14th.
