Louis Cole has shared his new album ‘nothing’ in full.
A key figure in LA music, Louis Cole is often tagged as a drummer and percussionist – after all, that was his first role. Fifth album ‘nothing’ – his third on Brainfeeder – takes this in a different direction, offering lush, orchestral passages.
Constructed alongside the Metropole Orkest and Jules Buckley, the material was broadly built from the ground up. Taking a central role, Louis Cole oversaw every detail, taking his music to bigger, more expansive arenas.
He comments: “It was the only way I was ever going to be happy with the results. This is my pure vision. It doesn’t get blended in or mixed with anyone else’s.”
Out now, ‘nothing’ offers lush soundscapes and immersive audio tapestries – a labour of love, you can feel Louis’ presence in each note.
“I was sad when the mixing was over,” he laughs, “Sometimes, when I’m mixing my own solo stuff, I’ll feel like a song needs a little magical dust. But mixing an entire orchestra and your own rhythm section, there’s so much human energy! You don’t have to add any magic. It was there the whole time.”
Tune in now.
