Welsh wonders Los Campesinos! have teamed up with a host of indie stars to work on a forthcoming Christmas track.
Christmas comes but once a year, and when it does it brings with it the same old soundtrack. Sure, The Pogues are one of life’s treats but do we really need ‘Fairytale Of New York’ to be beamed at us wherever we go?
Set up in aid of a good cause, forthcoming track ‘The Magic Of Christmas’ is set to add something new to the blend.
The track began as the brainchild of Bright Light Bright Light’s Rod Thomas, an attempt to capture that festive feeling without descending into mawkishness. Roping in some close friends to work on the song, the collective soon expanded beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.
In total ‘The Magic Of Christmas’ is set to feature (deep breath): Sound of Arrows, Copy Haho, Sky Larkin, James Yuill, Slow Club, Cereal (Calum of Dananananaykroyd), Los Campesinos!, Sparky Deathcap, The Venus Stare, My First Tooth and The Airborne Toxic Event.
Passed from group to group each act added their own segment until the song was complete. A closely linked bunch, some of the bands on ‘The Magic Of Christmas’ are no strangers to Yule tide blessings.
Slow Club, of course, released a special Christmas single last year and are set to follow that with an EP later this year. Adding a piece to ‘The Magic Of Christmas’ the cast alone makes the track something to behold.
The song is set to receive its first ever play on Wednesday December 2nd on his Radio 1 show. With a video due to be released soon, ‘The Magic Of Christmas’ could be set to soundtrack the nation’s last minute buying.
‘The Magic Of Christmas’ is set to be released via iTunes on December 14th.
