Welsh seven piece indie all stars Los Campesinos! have announced that they are set to lose a member.
Forming in Cardiff while studying at university, Los Campesinos! enjoyed a swift rise to success. Posting tracks online, the band showed so much promise that they were signed after only a handful of shows.
Teaming up with celebrated indie label Wichita, the band’s debut album was released in 2008. Yet such was the mood of creativity within Los Campesinos! that less than six months later the group had released another ten track collection of songs.
Stubbornly refusing to call ‘We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed’ an album, the group have been working on their official second LP in the United States.
Now almost finished recording with John Goodmanson, the band have decided to break the news to fans that Aleks Campesino will be leaving to continue with her studies.
“After three years of LC!, in an incredible journey that has gone from inaudible student union side room gigs to playing in-front of thousands in Caracas city centre; Aleks is now, as she always intended, departing the band in order to return to her studies.”
“In many ways, it would be great if there had been some falling out in the band and that Aleks couldn’t bear to tour with us anymore, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. We’re all better, closer friends now than we’ve ever been, and this makes the decision tougher on both Aleks, and the other six of us.”
“Aleks’ very last shows come with a weekend in the California sun. The girl will go out in fuckin style; we will make completely sure of that”.
Los Campesinos! assured fans that the band remained on good terms, and that they are planning to unveil their new member soon.
Issuing a statement herself, Aleks Campesino! said:
“I’m not sure I can really find the right words to express how I feel about leaving the band. The past 3 years have given me some of the best times of my life full of incredible experiences and wonderful people. I am really grateful to have been a part of the Los Campesinos! story. I’m going to miss so much about the whole thing.”
Los Campesinos! are set to release their new album later this year, after an extensive US tour that is due to take in the legendary festival Lollapalooza.
