Loraine James has shared plans for new album ‘Build Something Beautiful For Me’.
The ever-productive electronic composer links with Phantom Limb for the new project, which reconfigures key works by Julius Eastman for the incoming LP. Out on October 7th, the album reimagines and responds to some of his key works, while also using insight from rare works handed to Loraine James by Gerry Eastman, the surviving brother.
A special show has been organised for the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London on October 2nd. Exploring identity, racism, and sexuality, the incoming eight-track project feels like a powerful discourse between two minds.
Opening track ‘Maybe If I (Stay On It)’ illuminates Loraine James’ methodologies, a swirling reconfiguration of one of the core texts in Julius Eastman’s legacy.
A startling work in its own right, you can check it out below.
