Fast rising American group Local Natives have revealed their ambitions to work with Bjork.
Local Natives have erupted over the past few months. The release of their debut album demonstrated a vivid new talent, while a series of shows at SXSW demonstrated the band’s addictive live persona.
Merging extravagant harmonies with unusual songcraft, Local Natives are one of the year’s more unexpected success stories. Now the band have revealed their dream collaboration – Bjork.
Local Natives singer Kelcey Ayer revealed that the Icelandic singer acts an inspiration to the band. “She’s just such a character and has such a spirit that is unlike any other artist out there” he told Pitchfork.
“She’s literally on a whole ‘nother planet. She’s consistently changing and evolving and doing these different wild things with her songs. I think I could learn a lot from a person like that.”
Continuing, the singer also revealed that Local Natives have yet to use their success to buy some new equipment. Playing nine shows in six days at SXSW, the band made good use of crumbling equipment.
“I haven’t really been able to buy the things I’ve wanted to use” he revealed. “I don’t have the funds for that. But when we play in the states, I have a tom that I play next to my keyboard along with the drummer. It’s this really old Pearl tom, it’s blue, and it’s a total piece of shit – but I’ve liked it better than any other more expensive tom that I’ve played”.
“It just has this sound to it that I’ve grown to love. It’s pretty beat up at this point, but I haven’t liked anything else as much.”
