Tom Waits is streaming his forthcoming album ‘Bad As Me’ via his official website.
Maverick. Recluse. Influential. Difficult. All words used to describe Tom Waits, perhaps the most idiosyncratic songwriter thrown up by American music.
In typically mysterious fashion, the singer began dropping hints about a new album earlier this year. Posting lyrical snippets on his official website, Tom Waits drew fans into a typically dense web of allusion.
Last week the website posted a message which alerted fans to the possibility of new material. Asking them to tune back in on August 23rd, Tom Waits has now confirmed details of his latest studio venture.
‘Bad As Me’ is due to be released on October 24th, with a variety of formats being confirmed. Musically, no one can be entirely sure what Tom Waits will come up with but at least we know what the material will be pressed on.
The title track is available to download as a single right now, with ‘Bad As Me’ (the song) erupting out of the speakers with some gargling horns. A fat Cuban guitar line wraps itself around the song, with Tom Waits on furious form.
The album itself drops on October 24th, with ‘Bad As Me’ set to be available on CD and digital download. An extended edition will also be available, containing three new songs and a 40 page book of lyrics and photos taken by Waits himself.
The vinyl edition is pressed on 180 gram wax and will contain include the LP and CD plus a full-size 12-page book. Pre-orders for all editions are being taken via the official Tom Waits website.
Hosting a private listening party, Tom Waits has made ‘Bad As Me’ available to stream ahead of the release. Well, what are you waiting for? Get over there!
