An oft observed cliche, but still true: songwriting is a craft, something you learn through countless hours of learning and re-learning.
To Kill A King have certainly spent time on their music. The London based five piece have released two EPs to date, but that only scratches the surface of a creative endeavour which stretches back to 2009.
Perfectionists, the band's orchestral-folk sound hasn't come easily. Carefully refining their thoughts, their ideas and direction, To Kill A King are now ready to unveil their debut album.
Signing to Xtra Mile Recordings, To Kill A King seem to have gained a lot of confidence from the move. "We're so excited to be on the same label as artists like Frank Turner and Beans On Toast" Ralph Pelleymounter revealed recently. "I've always really admired the work they have done over the years as an independent".
With the right team in place, the band will release debut album 'Cannibals With Cutlery' on October 7th. Ahead of this, Clash are able to bring you the first play of new cut 'Bones' – seemingly the first song that the band ever recorded together.
It features everything which makes To Kill A King stand out: the pointed, purposeful melody, the way the lyrics flit in and out of the arrangement and the gradual increase of pressure until 'Bones' collapses in a frenzied, intense finale.
Listen to it now.
