Listen To Four Tet Go Deep On His Production Techniques

In this ace Tape Notes podcast...

Four Tet goes deep on his production techniques in a rare interview for Tape Notes.

The podcast is helmed by the genial John Kennedy, and offers fans insight into the way some of your favourite musicians approach the studio. Recent instalments include in-depth chats with Serge Pizzorno from Kasabian, and the team who assembled ‘BRAT’ – Charli XCX, A. G. Cook, and George Daniel.

The latest podcast is out now, and it features a very rare interview with Four Tet. The producer – real name Kieran Hebden – doesn’t do a lot of press (there’s no agenda there, he’s just not fussed) so this is a special opportunity to hear him geek out about studio techniques.

Much of the conversation hinges on recent album ‘Three’, which CLASH praised:

Undeniably impressive, ‘Three’ neatly frames the wondrous aspects of Four Tet’s work. It doesn’t move beyond the landscapes fans will be familiar with, choosing instead to embrace a more understated pursuit of evolution. For those in search of electronic beauty, however, few albums will be more radiant or rewarding.

Here’s part the Tape Notes introductory message:

Sitting down together, Kieran breaks down his production journey and writing process, sharing the samples at the core of each track and reflecting on his approach to the most important element, the arrangement. Digging into the production details, he shares tips on keeping loops alive, making kicks pop, and the subtle textures that help place a track in its own world.
