Maya Jane Coles has stepped in to provide a house inspired re-working of The xx track 'Fiction'.
The xx have always been prime fodder for remixes. The band's music relies on an awareness of space and mood, and given Jamie xx' own profile as a guest producer there is normally supreme quality control on show.
With their Night + Day events ongoing, The xx have been commissioning a few new remixes. Maya Jane Coles has stepped in to re-work 'Fiction' and – as you might well imagine – it's pretty special.
Recently polishing off her second Essential Mix, the producer is in confident mood. As a result, 'Fiction' shifts from being a down tempo exploration of softly hewn noir into something quite different, quite distinct.
Occasionally dabbling in a straight forward 4/4 house beat, the remix is all texture and structure – nothing stays still for long, with each rhythm shuffling effortlessly into the next, pushing the track to another level in the process.
