The Prodigy have overhauled the classic Jay-Z cut ’99 Problems’ in a new remix.
Jay-Z took on rock music and won. The past decade saw guitar groups re-assert themselves, with hip hop seeming to lose its way amid a morass of poor record deals, shoddy production and second rate rhymes.
Yet the Brooklyn rapper rose above it all. Becoming a globally recognised star, Jay-Z hooked up with Rick Rubin to record ’99 Problems’ – his guitar laden breakthrough hit.
Remaining a staple of his live set, the track appears on Jay-Z’s new ‘Greatest Hits’ package. Now The Prodigy have unveiled a barnstorming remix, adding some dance beats to the classic cut.
Available to stream on The Prodigy’s SoundCloud page, the remix has been certified as legitimate. Fans are uncertain why the remix has been released, although some have speculated that it could be linked to the new ‘Greatest Hits’ package.
Set to be released next month, Jay-Z’s new collection adds some bonus material to his best known cuts. An over view of his career, the forthcoming ‘Greatest Hits’ package accompanies the rapper’s new autobiography.
