Listen: The Ophelias – ‘Fog’

Produced by Yoni Wolf, no less...

American four-piece The Ophelias have shared new song 'Fog'.

The group formed while still in high school, four female musicians left dismayed by their 'token girl' status in previous projects.

“In the past we had all kind of been the ‘girl in the band,’ in some capacity,” says Spencer Peppet. “Having a band of all women eradicates that possibility logistically, but also makes for a really creative environment without the patronization that often comes along with being the ‘girl in the band.’”

Yoni Wolf – of WHY? fame – has joined to produce their debut album, with 'Almost' incoming via Joyful Noise Recordings.

Matching baroque impulses against sweet, soft DIY pop, there are shades of Flying Nun, early K Records and more at play here, but really what comes through is a striking songwriting voice all their own.

New song 'Fog' is online now – opening with chirruping vocal harmonies, it falls into a lazy acoustic strut, a whimsical but affecting piece of songwriting.
