Listen: Stewart Lee Pays Homage To Shirley Collins

Tackling 'Polly On The Shore'

Shirley Collins is a living phenomenon.

Steeped in the English folk tradition, her questing spirit has always sought to expand the definitions of what 'folk' actually is.

New tribute album 'Shirley Inspired' has been pieced together by Earth Recordings, with the cast including the likes of Graham Coxon, Lee Ranaldo, Johnny Flynn and more.

Comedian Stewart Lee has agreed to lend a hand, recording a version of 'Polly On The Shore'. Lee explains: "Even though I am a folk fan, I like lots of different music and Shirley's in the top ten of all artists for me, irrespective of what they're supposed to be classified as."

It's a sturdy version of a folk classic, with the reverence displayed by Stewart Lee acting as the perfect homage to Shirley Collins' work.
