Listen: Public Access T.V. – ‘In The Mirror’

The return of new wave?

A pop oriented cousin to the feral punk movement, new wave was the point where rock classicism re-asserted its dominance by absorbing the energy of youth.

It makes for a fantastic teenage soundtrack. Chiming, 60s guitars united with jagged riffs, powerhouse drumming and lyrics that reek of dis-enchantment, boredom and small town ennui.

All of which could be applied to Public Access T.V. A slot at this year's Great Escape ruffled a few feathers, with the American band seemingly equipped with snappy anthem after snappy anthem.

'In The Mirror' is just one of those. While guitars clash and drums crash, the lyrics speak of an inner collapse, an introversion which can only be met by getting onstage and pulling out a superb rock show.
