Pepe Deluxe are set to release their new single ‘A Night And A Day’ on January 16th.
Arriving in an unassuming white envelope, the new album from Pepe Deluxe is a truly unique object. Titled ‘Queen Of The Wave’ the cover art alone is a head-swimming mixture of influences, featuring a 50s pin up riding a surf board with a volcanic eruption underneath.
Sub-titled ‘An Esoteric Pop Opera In Three Parts’ the album’s schizophrenic nature (and its roots in psychedelia) is a neat counterpoint to The Coral. Throwing influences together, the album’s more outlandish moments are tempered by a shrewd pop touch which has taken several years to hone.
Out next year, ‘Queen Of The Wave’ will be preceded by new single ‘A Night And A Day’. A relatively straight forward (by Pepe Deluxe standards) pop song, the single is a neat, three minute package.
All killer no filler, ‘A Night And A Day’ can be filed easily alongside American newcomers Hooded Fang or The Bees recent output.

Amongst the instruments used on the new album is the Great Stalacpipe Organ. Crafted by Leyland P Sprinkle, James Spectrum recently told ClashMusic that the enormous instrument is in fact relatively easy to play.
“Technically it’s really easy to play; the difficult thing is the sound of the organ, the glass like tones and lots of reverb that rings for a long time. It’s a massive, one-of-a kind instrument and needs to be treated with respect” he said.
Connected up to a mountain, the organ is apparently one of the biggest instruments on the planet. “I have to say size does matter, but even if it hadn’t have been be the biggest instrument in the world then it’s the concept that’s amazing. You’re basically sort of playing a mountain so it really takes a magnificent mind to come up with something like that.”
