Classically trained, Shara Worden has always used this as a bedrock to fully explore new ideas.
Under her My Brightest Diamond moniker the songwriter has done exactly that. Returning with a new album, the Detroit based artist is promising something quite special.
Out on September 16th via Asthmatic Kitty Records, the material on new album 'This Is My Hand' was seemingly born through a period of rigid self-analysis.
"In the States, the marching band is done in school and represents something inclusive, that anyone can learn" she explains. "I love the communal quality and the way drums and horns travel in large, three-dimensional spaces. I looked at changes in music over my career, and trying to re-evaluate what it meant to me in the first place: ‘what is the value of music?’ is essentially what I was thinking about."
Produced by Zac Rae and Worden herself, album cut 'Pressure' is now online. Ornate, baroque and vividly emotional, it shares some of the characteristics of St. Vincent's earlier work - viewed from Worden's unique perspective, of course.
