Listen: Marika Hackman – You Come Down

Debut single emerges...

Marika Hackman is streaming her debut single ‘You Come Down’ – listen to it below.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, the British music scene has suffered a deluge of new folk artists. Well, we say ‘folk’ – in reality, most amount to little more than stark pop songs played on an acoustic guitar.

Marika Hackman, though, is quite different. Literate, emotionally involving her material is already prompting the odd admiring glance from figures such as Zane Lowe.

Double A-Side ‘You Come Down’ and ‘Mountain Spines’ was produced by Johnny Flynn and his Sussex Wit cohort Adam Beach, with the single representing a neat two-part introduction to the world of Marika Hackman.

Released via Transgressive imprint paradYse, the single will be available on limited 7” and digital download. Stream it below.

Here’s a quick quote from Marika Hackman:

“I don’t know why I started writing; it’s something I’ve been playing around with since I was so young that I can’t remember how it began. I think living in the countryside for most of my life has affected my writing as nature usually manages to creep its way into my songs…”

Meanwhile, Marika Hackman has confirmed plans for a single launch show – details below.
