Joanna Gruesome have posted a cover of Galaxie 500's 'Tugboat' online – listen to it now.
2013 could well be the year the indie pop baton was handed back across the Atlantic. The past few years have seen the Williamsburg scene dominate the landscape, but with events such as Indietracks and a renewed splash of labels it seems that the UK remains very much where it's at.
With a host of newcomers adding a UK-centric slant on a classic sound, Joanna Newsome's individualism is to be encouraged. Debut album 'Weird Sister' is a thrilling mesh of Riot Grrrl, C86, art rock and more, tackling challenging topics with a wry sense of humour.
New single 'Sugarcrush' drops on November 18th, and on the flip fans can find a cover of Galaxie 500's 'Tugboat'. Virtually the template for what would become known as slowcore, Joanna Gruesome rough up the edges a little – if this is dream pop, then your sleep is more than a little disturbed.
