Jamie xx has stepped in to chair the Essential mix for Radio 1 – and dropped a new track in the process.
The crown prince of the quiet revolution, Jamie xx has two sides to his personality. A member of The xx, the musician spent the bulk of the summer on the road as the band completed their Night + Day concerts.
However the producer also maintains an active solo career. Stepping in to chair the Essential Mix for Radio 1, Jamie xx managed to balance both sides of his persona.
Opening with his own, steel drum bolstered Numbers' cut 'Far Nearer' the mix features a broad array of genres all fused seamlessly. The middle section is buoyed by Todd Edwards' 'Saved My Life' before ending with the producer's own 'Sleep Sound'.
Featuring as as yet untitled solo production, the mix also benefits from two Kieran Hebden productions – a producer who Jamie xx is currently in the studio with.
