Jamie Cullum and Roots Manuva have joined forces on 'Love For $ale' – a new version of a jazz standard.
Jazz is the teacher, funk is the preacher…
On the surface, Jamie Cullum and Roots Manuva are worlds apart. One of a successful jazz pianist, while the other is arguably one of the finest MCs these isles have produced.
Yet clearly they seem to disagree. Working on his new album, Jamie Cullum decided to loop a Roots Manuva bass line over a fresh rendition of a jazz standard.
Written by Cole Porter, 'Love For $ale' has been re-built from the ground up. Roots even popped by the studio to add some additional rhymes, while the loping bass line from 'Witness' gives the track a steady anchor.
Mistajam debuted the track on 1Xtra, commenting: "Cole Porter's 'Love For $ale' over Roots Manuva's 'Witness' with extra verse from Roots Manuva… Shouldn't work but it really, really does…"
Listen to it now.
