Field Music are streaming their new single ‘A New Town’, due for release on February 27th.
Centred on Sunderland siblings Peter and David Brewis, Field Music have spent the best of a decade making penetrating, probing guitar music. Never quite falling into one scene or style, the band have managed to build an ardent cult following without ever troubling the charts.
Which isn’t to say that Field Music don’t have a pop touch. Take new single ‘A New Town’ – due out on February 27th, it has an awkward, nagging rhythm that is difficult to shift.
Almost in line with post-punk groups such as Talking Heads, the stunted, white boy groove also owes a debt to Roxy Music. Opening with some neat folk textures, ‘A New Town’ is about as unavoidable as the Brutalist architecture which flooded Britain’s real life new towns.
