Listen: Dent May Mixtape

'Escape From Groove Mountain'

Dent May has pieced together a new mixtape titled ‘Escape From Groove Mountain’.

Based in Oxford, Missippi Dent May is steeped in the evocative atmosphere of the deep South. Fuelled by a love of vintage blues and soul, the idiosyncratic artist released ‘The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele’ almost two years ago.

An inspiring, confusing, confounding record it saw Dent May draw on a deep well of influences. Now the songwriter has pieced together a fresh mixtape, which expands on some of his most deeply held roots.

‘Escape From Groove Mountain’ is all smoky Southern soul, Satanic blues laments and oddball cuts. Dent May: “This mix is inspired by driving around with friends listening to classic R&B and funk radio hella blazed on a sunny afternoon. Included are some choice Mississippi cuts from James “Pane” Taylor, Fern Kinney, and The Jackson Southernaires. Shout out to the classic Malaco Records, whose facilities in Jackson, MS were completely destroyed in a tornado last year, so check out their deep catalogue and support them”.

He’s not wrong you know. Here’s the Malaco website.
