Icelandic singer Bjork has released a track from her upcoming Moomins project as a new download.
The Moomins is a cult phenomenon far beyond its native Finland. Based on Scandinavian folk tales, the dream-like cartoon wove its way into Britain’s collective childhood through extensive Saturday morning showings.
A gently psychedelic cartoon, its fixed morals and bizarre visuals have contributed to The Moomins’ lasting appeal.
Set to reach the silver screen later this summer, ‘The Moomins And The Comet Chase’ will benefit from an all star soundtrack. Icelandic singer Bjork has been vocal in her support of the project, and has contributed to the score.
Working on new material inspired by the cartoon, the singer has now unveiled new track ‘The Comet Song’. A typically idiosyncratic work, it features Bjork performing some wonderfully strange vocals.
Taken from the new soundtrack, ‘The Comet Song’ will be released today (August 24th) through iTunes. A special release, all funds generated from the track will be donated to UNICEF Pakistan childrens charities.

Meanwhile, Bjork’s collaboration with Brooklyn group Dirty Projectors is ongoing. The pair united earlier this year, to work on material which was apparently inspired by early Italian opera.
A physical album featuring the pair is due for release later this year, shortly after the release of ‘The Moomins And The Comet Chase’.
