Listen: Arcade Fire – Horn Of Plenty

Orchestral moment from new soundtrack

Arcade Fire are streaming new song ‘Horn Of Plenty’ taken from ‘The Hunger Games’ soundtrack.

Confirming plans to take part in a soundtrack project, Arcade Fire promised that their material for ‘The Hunger Games’ would be more than mere filler. So it comes as no surprise to find out that both contributions are well worth tracking down…

‘Abraham’s Daughter’ is a Regine Chassagne led anthem, very much in keeping with some of the band’s more stirring tendencies. ‘Horn Of Plenty’ meanwhile, is an orchestral based track which emerged online over the weekend.

Chatting with Entertainment Weekly (via Stereogum) recently, Win Butler had the following to say: “We were interested in making music that would be more integral in the movie, just as a mental exercise. And there’s an anthem that runs throughout the books, the national anthem of the fascist Capitol. So as a thought experiment, we tried to write what that might sound like.”

“It’s like the Capitol’s idea of itself, basically. It’s not a pop song or anything – more of an anthem that could be playing at a big sporting event like the Games. So we did a structure for that, and then James Newton Howard made a movie-score version of it that happens in several places in the film.”

Sadly, ‘Horn Of Plenty’ doesn’t look set to appear on the soundtrack album ‘The Hunger Games’.
