A rare acoustic performance from Animal Collective has emerged online, featuring two ‘Centipede Hz’ cuts.
In their initial incarnation, Animal Collective were best summed up as wyrd folk: all fuzzy acoustic chords and half-whispered vocals, the band’s sound seemed roots in traditional instrumentation.
So their journey has been a thing of wonder to indulge in. New album ‘Centipede Hz’ is perhaps their densest yet, the sound of four musicians jamming in the studio and reconnecting as a fully functioning band.
Earlier this summer, Animal Collective dropped past KEXP to record an acoustic session. Performing ‘Honeycomb’ the Baltimore group also unveiled two then-unreleased cuts: ‘Wide Eyed’ and ‘Pullets’.
A tantalising glimpse of a sound Animal Collective rarely explore these days, you can check out the performances below. (via Pitchfork)
