Linda Thompson Announces New Album ‘Proxy Music’

With a range of guests...

Folk icon Linda Thompson will release new album ‘Proxy Music’ on June 21st.

The English singer has a wonderful, one-of-a-kind catalogue, ranging from solo work to her extensive collaborations with former husband Richard Thompson. In the early 80s, however, she was dealt a cruel blow – Linda Thompson was diagnosed with a rare vocal condition known as spasmodic dysphonia which affects a person’s ability to talk and sing.

Taking a number of years out, Linda Thompson has now signalled her return – with a range of guest vocalists performing her material.

The wonderfully titled ‘Proxy Music’ lands this summer, with a glamorous shot of Linda on the cover – a tongue-in-cheek parallel to Bryan Ferry’s so-called ‘Roxy Girls’ on those iconic Roxy Music sleeves.

Guests include Kami Thompson, Martha Wainwright, The Proclaimers, Rufus Wainwright, Ren Harvieu, John Grant, The Rails, Dori Freeman, Eliza Carthy, The Unthanks, and Teddy Thompson, entrusted with the English musician’s songwriting.

New single ‘Solitary Traveller’ is out now, with Kami Thompson on vocals. Penned by Linda Thompson and James Walbourne, Linda comments:

“Solitary Traveller, I wouldn’t know. I’ve never been one. But, if you have a lot of people in your life, you sometimes yearn for solitude. Conversely, solitary people often crave company. It is a bit of a dichotomy. My daughter doing the honours.”

Tune in now.
