Susan Boyle’s rise to fame continued at the weekend, but one person who isn’t too happy about the singer’s performance is Lily Allen.
Ugly duckling turned global icon, Susan Boyle emerged from her home in Blackburn, Scotland not aware of what lay ahead of her. Taking to the stage in Glasgow at the opening heat of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ she was prepared to be confronted by cynicism and negativity.
Yet in one of the year’s most sensational television moments Susan Boyle turned all preconceptions on their head with a stunning performance, rendering the audience speechless.
Since then, Susan Boyle has become a global celebrity. The YouTube clip of her performance became must-see viewing, racking up over 10 million hits. A pop culture reference across the planet, she has been lovingly lampooned by the likes of South Park, The Simpsons and the normally sedate Jay Leno.
However one person who isn’t a fan is Lily Allen. Allen recently released her new album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’, a superb collection of foul mouthed pop. The singer released her single ‘Not Fair’ recently, which managed to take an ex-boyfriend’s poor performance in the sack all the way to the Top Ten.
In a recent Twitter update Lily Allen wrote “Susan Boyle is so overrated” .
After watching Boyle’s second performance on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ the singer appeared to be none too impressed. “I thought her timing was off, no control and I don’t think she has an amazing voice.”
Lily Allen appears to be a fan of talent programs, announcing that she has decided who she wants to win the current series of ‘American Idol’. Picking teenager Shaheen Jafargholi, Allen praised the singer’s rendition of the Michael Jackson classic ‘Who’s Loving You’.
Allen has a career of her own to maintain, of course. The singer has a number of festival appearances in the offing, including Glastonbury where her father Keith Allen is something of a backstage legend.
Boyle, of course, managed to win through to the next round of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. Despite kissing Piers Morgan and hitting a few bum notes (could the two be linked?) the singer had a strong enough fan base to overcome this.
The Scottish sensation does have a few heavyweight fans in her corner however. Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher are massive fans, with ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge Amanda Holden claiming on Twitter that Simon Cowell should fly the pair over to cheer on their hero.
Moore Twittered back “Well, if he offers the ride…”
