The nominations for the 55th Ivor Novello awards are in, with Lily Allen and Dizzee Rascal dominating proceedings.
Founded six decades ago, the Ivor Novello awards are designed to showcase excellence in British music. Each year the academy gives out several trophies, highlighting some of the biggest success stories.
Held in London’s Grosvenor House, this year’s ceremony takes place on May 20th. The awards are presented by BASCA in association with PRS for Music with past winners including Sir Paul McCartney, David Bowie and more.
This year, Lily Allen dominates proceedings. The singer’s second album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ was an enormous success spawning several huge singles. However a high profile row over file-sharing saw the performer retreat from the limelight, later announcing a break from music.
Lily Allen has been nominated for her single ‘The Fear’ which was a number one hit last summer. Potentially joining the pop star on the winner’s podium is one time touring partner Dizzee Rascal.
The grime pioneer turned electro icon has enjoyed enormous success in recent times. Dizzee Racal has been nominated in two categories, for his single ‘Bonkers’ and for its parent album ‘Tongue N Cheek’.
Other acts up for nominations include Paolo Nutini for his album ‘Sunny Side Up’. Meanwhile, Neil Hannon’s side project The Duckworth Lewis Method have also received a nomination for their debut album.
Ivor Novello Awards take place on May 20th.
