The Libertines are beginning to settle down, and recently offered their advice on fatherhood.
A gang of cockney ne’er do wells, The Libertines emerged from the bowels of London amid a ready made mythology. Oozing youthful energy, the band’s reformation emphasised how much the world had changed.
Sure, the hits still sounded immaculate and their easy bonhomie was remarkable to see onstage. But The Libertines are just that bit older, that bit more experienced that the sense of anarchy was somewhat lost.
In a new interview Carl Barat revealed that his girlfriend is expecting to give birth to the couple’s first child this December. However he won’t be the first member of The Libertines to become a father, with John Hassall beating him to the punch.
Discussing the situation at recent rehearsals, Hassall gave Carl Barat a few pieces of information. Speaking to BBC News, the singer said: “From the very start of rehearsals until we parted ways after the gig, John was like, ‘I want to talk to you about a few things about fatherhood because I’ve just done it and can impart a bit of wisdom”.
John Hassall gave his band mate a few friendly words of advice, which ended up being less than helpful. “We never got the chance and then, as I was getting into a taxi, he grabbed me and said: ‘Oh yeah, about fatherhood… just chill out about everything.'”
“That’s him all over really.”
Meanwhile, Carl Barat is preparing a busy end to the year. The singer has completed work on his debut solo album, which is set to be released shortly. In addition to this, Barat has taken up his pen to finish his autobiography.
