Liars Talk Stateside Move

New album recorded in Los Angeles

American post-punk group Liars have spoken exclusively to ClashMusic about their decision to move back to the United States.

Liars like to keep fans guessing. Famed for vast stylistic shifts between albums, the band recently decided to move back to the United States commencing work on their new record ‘Sisterworld’ in Los Angeles.

An attempt to dissect the the alternate worlds which people construct just to get through life, the album is a typically fascinating return.

Speaking to ClashMusic, Liars’ Aaron Hemphill revealed that the group simply needed somewhere familiar to begin work on their new album.

“How we work, I mean Angus would generally complete a demo and then pass it back and forth for revision. A very small amount of our songwriting would come from everyone being together” he explained.

“So living in the same city allows more development of the material, according to our methods of work. All three of us know it so well, which was a major factor in choosing Los Angeles”.

Continuing, the Liars star praised the impact of previous home Berlin on their music. “In Berlin was had amazing resources in terms of recording but it was the little things – getting something to eat, breaking a guitar string. Those things took up a lot of time, although I think the city had a really great impact on those records.”
