Liars have begun posting new sound clips taken from their ongoing recording sessions.
Liars are impossible to predict. The band’s back catalogue is packed with bizarre diversions, moving from Freak Folk to dense Industrial tones with effortless grace.
Currently holed up in Los Angeles, the group have been working on new material with an as yet un-named producer. Now Liars have begun posting small sound clips on the website, giving an indication of the creative process behind the new material.
The latest features distorted film of a man in a crash helmet and a woman cleaning her car. Kept on repeat, the de-graded tones sit in line with, say, the left field experiments of James Ferarro.
Other clips include a house plant hooked up to a reel to reel recorder, while the band also attempt to record an apple. Posting an image of the fruit hooked up to some mics, Liars wrote: “Today we search for sound in unexpected ways, with unexpected results!”

Speaking exclusively to ClashMusic earlier this year, Liars frontman Angus Andrews explained that the band were searching for something new and unexpected. “We have covered a lot of ground before so that’s why this part is so important so we can experiment and try to find sounds that we’ve never come across before in ways that we’ve never done before either.”
“I mentioned that we’re using a lot of these microphones, attaching them to everything – burying them in the ground and stuff like that. We’re still interested in songs and stuff, so I guess if I was to list two bands: I’ve been listening to a lot of Dire Straights and also some of the earlier Bjork records. So y’know somewhere in between there! With microphones in the toilet basin, hopefully finding the medium between those sorts of styles.”
